February 2011

Welcome to this month’s broadcast

Do I or don't I? Thats the only tricky thing about having a newletter that gets sent out every 2nd month...the confusion of whether or not to mention the things that happened over a month ago. Like christmas or the new year...ah well, happy new year to you!

We hope you had a good break and managed to get some sun on your skin. I heard the other day that people in Europe are taking tablets to balance a vitamin D deficiency in their systems. How lucky are we that we can just stand outside for 10 minutes and we're dosed up!

The fact that if you stand out in the sun any longer than that and you get fried is by the by. Life is all about balance, so on that note let's see how Business Coaching New Zealand can help create a little more balance in your life...just like this guy  www.youtube.com/watch

Tips and Tricks of the Trade

YOUR ROAD MAP FOR 2011

The year has started although 1/12 has gone already, so let's not beat around the bush. Holiday time is a time for reflection and planning and those silly new years resolutions that never last more than a day. To make 2011 as successful as it could be it's important to have the year mapped out for your business milestones.

So what is a business milestone?

It's anything significant that you want to happen over the next 12 months. For example...the purchase of any major assets, a change in staff, a move to a new premises, changing company direction, the start of a new service or product line...etc...

Your business road map should be structured similar to a 12 month calendar. And for each milestone you have put on your list they should be written next to the month you want it to happen, with the approximate dollar value as well.

When you are making your milestone list, dream big! But be a little realistic. This 12 month milestone calendar is only the first step to your yearly plan, next you have to work out how you are going to make these milestone happen and then try and figure out where all the money is going to come from. That's where your cash flows, forecasts and budgets come into play.

Dear Betty

Dear Betty,

Q: We are all back at work after the holidays and business is fairly steady, but I am finding it really hard to get the motivation back into my working day. Especially when I know that my partner and kids are still at the beach! How can I avoid going through the rest of the year feeling like I do now?!

A: Map out your year!

Dream big!

Put it all down on paper so it's not just rattling around in your head. Put some glitter on it if it will make you feel better and stay focussed. There are blue bottles at the beach anyway.

Good for a Giggle

THE BAIL OUT

It is a slow day in a damp little Irish town. The rain is beating down and the streets are deserted. Times are tough, everybody is in debt and everybody lives on credit.

On this particular day a rich German tourist is driving through the town, stops at the local hotel and lays a €100 note on the desk, telling the hotel owner he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick one to spend the night.

The owner gives him some keys and, as soon as the visitor has walked upstairs, the hotelier grabs the €100 note and runs next door to pay his debt to the butcher.

The butcher takes the €100 note and runs down the street to repay his debt to the pig farmer.

The pig farmer takes the €100 note and heads off to pay his bill at the supplier of feed and fuel.

The guy at the Farmers' Co-op takes the €100 note and runs to pay his drinks bill at the pub.

The publican slips the money along to the local prostitute drinking at the bar, who has also been facing hard times and has had to offer him "services" on credit.

The hooker then rushes to the hotel and pays off her room bill to the hotel owner with the €100 note.

The hotel proprietor then places the €100 note back on the counter so the rich traveller will not suspect anything.

At that moment the traveller comes down the stairs, picks up the €100 note, states that the rooms are not satisfactory, pockets the money and leaves town.

No one produced anything. No one earned anything. However, the whole town is now out of debt and looking to the future with a lot more optimism.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how the bailout package works.
